In how we communicate, behave and conduct business; it is hard to ignore how the world is rapidly changing around us. Developed in response to a shortage of digital skills identified both nationally and globally, our master’s in Digital Business has been designed to provide you with key practical skills for the current marketplace, including problem solving, strategic planning and critical thinking.
You will be taught by a team of internationally recognised experts based in the award winning Centre for Digital Business at Salford Business School and you will look at the technologies driving successful organisations and the opportunities they give for business development.
You will consider a wide range of business areas touched by technological developments including autonomous delivery vehicles, new forms of currency, ambient beacons and sensing technologies as well as increasingly customised workplace and social experiences. We have an excellent track record of bringing together students and digital business owners to solve business problems and for work-based teaching or live projects.
The programme takes advantage of Salford’s digital setting at MediaCityUK, acknowledged nationally and internationally as a leading digital region. The programme is highly industry-focussed and culminates in the Industry Collaboration Project. You will choose one of four options to look at a real industry problem and provide researched solutions, helping you put your learning into practice.

Normally a minimum 2:2 honours degree or equivalent.

The scheme has been designed to meet the aims of the online MSc in a flexible manner and can be tailored to the individual preferences of each student. The MSc requires you to complete four courses plus a final dissertation. The programme consists of the following modules:
This is the first module of the programme which gives an orientation to the course and the online learning style. It does not carry credits and students are encouraged to go through the material in this module at their own pace and get accustomed to the online medium.

Research Methods Live Class
One week intensive live lectures online to prepare for your final dissertation.
60 credits, Individual dissertation
A conventional dissertation of 12,000 to 15,000 words, consisting of research question, aims and objectives, rationale for undertaking the study, literature review, research methodology, analysis of findings, conclusions and recommendations.
There are no average courses within our MSc programme. We are bound to provide an exceptional learning experience, and there is no better way to achieve this aim than with outstanding courses. There are no old-fashioned exams. Instead you are given real-life case studies and essays, which allow you to think critically about your company and your own career. All this might seem too glossy but there is one catch: we do not accept average candidates. A not-for-credit induction module will be the starting point of the programme. The induction process is designed to familiarise you with the programme design, requirements and resources, as well as with the way online interaction, learning and grading will take place. After the induction you should be familiar with academic life, including academic writing, library services and library access, OnlineCampus access, and academic support services.
Digital Business and Entrepreneurship
The Digital Business and Entrepreneurship module has been designed specifically to equip you with the practical and theoretical skills needed for contemporary business settings; you will gain an understanding of the role of inactive business models (think Uber) that can exploit innovative and disruptive technologies such as drones, robotics, and wearable tech. There is a focus on entrepreneurial skills essential for those starting their own businesses and also for those working in digital business settings. The module will encourage you to critically assess how social, disruptive and innovative technologies can become key business enablers and facilitate strategic competitive advantages.
Search and Social Media Marketing
This module aims to develop core skills in social media-based targeting
and communication strategies. The module covers a host of topics that
looks at the strategic analysis of social media platforms from a
communications perspective, key metrics, tools, techniques and strategy
development frameworks. The module also aims to develop capabilities in
search engine optimisation and search engine marketing, site audit,
content optimization etc. A comprehensive coverage of marketing
communication through social media is achieved through intensive case
discussion sessions, group activities, practitioner lectures and
insightful study materials. This module is accredited by the Institute
of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM).
Information Systems and Digital Transformation
Most businesses are undergoing some form of digital transformation, this module has been designed with business leaders to take a critical overview of the processes that are involved. You will develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the needs of organisations when strategically planning transformation and integrating business information systems. You will also achieve a holistic knowledge of the critical role of IS/T, both at corporate and business levels, enabling you to be ready to support and deliver professional, ethical and legal services in IS/T transformation.
Project Management, Leadership and Skills, Planning and Control
You will learn about the approaches, skills and methods of effective project management, and the tools and techniques required for planning, control, teamwork, leadership and other key processes. All of these qualities will develop your ability to lead complex projects.
Minimum 12 months, maximum 3 years.
100% online via OnlineCampus (an interactive online learning environment) with intensive class discussion and collaboration.
The number of places per term is strictly limited to 90.
Four terms per year (winter, spring, summer and autumn).
12,000 CHF (Swiss Francs). This includes library access, OnlineCampus access, graduation fees, and University of Salford matriculation fees. Fees are payable in interest free instalments over 12 months, however, the programme is not eligible for UK Postgraduate Loans for Master’s Study. The fees are for the entire programme, and include all the courses as well as supervision for the final innovation project.
Accreditation and Recognition
This degree is awarded by the University of Salford, which received a Royal Charter in 1967 from Her Majesty the Queen. The University is fully recognised by the British government; The University of Salford degree transcript will mention Robert Kennedy College as your teaching institution.
